Our Affiliation

We are part of the Presbyterian Church in America. By Presbyterian, we are describing our representative form of church government. The Bible teaches that Christ is the head of the church (Eph 1:22-23), and he vests His power in the local church (Matt 16:18-19) where it is ministered & declared by the elders (Acts 15:2; Tit 1:5-9), who are elected by members of the congregation.

Planting Pastor, Sojourner Church

Nathan’s heart for ministry is rooted in building genuine relationships and sharing the gospel across cultures. After serving in various ministry roles and completing his pastoral assessments with the PCA, Nathan felt called to plant a church that would bridge communities and reflect the diversity of God’s kingdom.

He’s passionate about discipleship, leadership development, and creating a church culture marked by character, competency, and compassion.

When he’s not teaching or meeting with members, you’ll find him enjoying coffee with friends, spending time outdoors, or sharing a meal with his family and neighbors.

Sojourner Church began with a simple vision: to plant a Bible-believing, multiethnic church that reflects the heart of Jackson, MS.

We’re a grassroots church built on prayer, community, and the unchanging Word of God, where people from every background can gather, grow, and go forth to serve.

  • This church plant exists to glorify God by gathering the lost, equipping the saints for ministry, and being a self-replicating church that seeks to reflect the demographics of its community as a reformed witness of Jesus Christ in its neighbor and around the world.

  • We desire to create a dynamic and welcoming multicultural church environment where people of all backgrounds can experience the Love of Christ, Know the hope of the Gospel, and embrace the Reformed faith.

  • As a member of the Presbyterian Church of America, we are a confessional church, fully committed to living out in today’s context the rich theology, piety, and practice of the historic Christian faith recovered during the Protestant Reformation and is best summarized in the Westminster Confession of Faith, Shorter and Larger Catechism and the Book of Church Order which consists of Form of Government, Rules of Church Discipline, and the Directory of Church Worship.

  • 1. Biblical Authority and Interpretation:

    • Scriptural Foundation: We affirm the authority of the Bible as the inspired and authoritative Word of God, guiding our beliefs and practices.

    • Faithful Interpretation: Our church shall emphasize the careful study and interpretation of Scripture, often using scholarly and theological resources to understand and apply biblical teachings.

    2. Reformed Theology:

    • Sovereignty of God: We shall emphasize God’s sovereignty in all aspects of life and salvation, grounded in the teachings of Reformed doctrine.

    • Grace Alone: We believe in salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone—as the central tenet of Reformed theology.

    3. Presbyterian Polity:

    • Elder Leadership: We are governed by elected elders (presbyters) who serve in a system of representative democracy and oversee the spiritual and administrative affairs of the church.

    • Connectionalism: We believe in the interconnectedness of Presbyterian churches through regional and national governing bodies (presbyteries and general assemblies), fostering unity and mutual accountability.

    4. Worship and Sacraments:

    • Sacraments: We recognize two sacraments of the Lord’s Church—Baptism and the Lord’s Supper—as means of grace instituted by Christ and are to be continued until His second coming.

    • Reverent Worship: We shall engage in worship that emphasizes reverence, prayer, Scripture reading, preaching, and congregational participation.

    5. Mission and Outreach:

    • Global Mission: We are committed to missional work, both locally and globally, including evangelism, community service, and the advancement of God’s kingdom through church planting.

    • Community Engagement: We shall seek to be involved in the broader community to address social, economic, and spiritual needs, reflecting Christ’s compassion and love.

    6. Education and Discipleship:

    • Lifelong Learning: We seek to emphasize Christian education for all ages, promoting spiritual growth, biblical understanding, and Reformed theological reflections.

    • Discipleship: We encourage all members to live out their faith daily, integrating Christian values into their personal and professional lives.

    7. Church Discipline:

    • Church discipline is a vital practice of God’s assembly. It is aimed at maintaining the glory of God, the purity of the church, and the reconciliation of disobedient sinners. The goal is not punitive, but redemptive, seeking to restore individuals to their faithful obedience and to a right relationship with Christ. Through this process, the church upholds its witness to the holiness of God while extending grace for repentance and restoration of those who have professed Christ as their Lord and Savior.
